The Scotsbred Performance Horse
Hillock Stables has bred its own line of warm blood sport horse -the Scotsbred Performance Horse. We've put Thoroughbred racing mares to our imported Highland Pony stallion, Drummondene. We really like the result! The Scotsbred retains the temperament, great feet, strength, and surefootedness of the Highland while gaining the athleticism of the Thoroughbred. As an eventer from Britain stated, "you keep the goodness of the Highland, but gain the speed from that squirt of blood (the Thoroughbred)!!!” We've experimented with infusion of the Standardbred race horse, too, and are very pleased.
The Scotsbred Performance Horse will mature in the 15 to 16.1 hand range. Hillock Stables will have several prospects each season undersaddle, hunting, and eventing. From pure Highlands to 3/4 drafts to the Scotsbred, Hillock Stables offers for sale a range of horses: packer field hunters to speedy eventer types.
Please continue to check in at our Marketplace section. By summer 2005 several young prospects from our breeding program will be put undersaddle, in addition to the young stock currently in training.
Hillock O'Carns Farm horse operations are a small stud
farm, foxhunting base, and sport horse production center. Beyond
the several veteran field hunters and broodmares at residence,
the farm produces young hunting and eventing prospects for direct
placement to good homes. Hillock Farms has placed horses and ponies at caring farms in Kentucky, Montana, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Iowa.
